General context
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Accountant will serve as a key member of the finance and administration team by applying his/her financial and accounting expertise to support a programs portfolio, as well as ensuring that projects budgets are being successfully completed in compliance with Internews internal policies and funder requirements.
Core Functions/Responsibilities
- Monitors program accounting and documentation to ensure compliance with funder requirements and Internews policies and procedures;
- Responsible for timely and accurate accounting entries including accounts payable, petty cash, vacation accruals and general accounting entries;
- Acts as a cashier, prepares/reviews wire transfer requests, prepares/reviews and controls Expense Reimbursement Forms;
- Assists with local accounting duties in compliance with Lithuanian legislation using local accounting program Rivile, assists with Local Tax Declarations;
- Assists Finance Manager with month and year end activities, preparation of Local Annual Financial Reports, actively participates in Annual Audit;
- Upon request processes payments, upon request processes Field Office payroll;
- Understands, demonstrates commitment, and upholds Internews Core Values;
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Degree (or being last year student) in Economics, Accounting, Finance or another related field;
- Curiosity and keeping up with finance and accounting news;
- Motivation and willingness to grow as an expert in accounting;
- Proven ability to work both independently and as an effective team member;
- Fluency in Lithuanian and good knowledge of English;
- Knowledge of Lithuanian tax and local accounting legislation;
- Intermediate expertise in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel;
- Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively;
- Analytical and problem solving ability;
- Related work or internship experience would be an advantage.
