Internews, an international nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC and Arcata, CA, works to ensure access to trusted, quality information that empowers people to have a voice in their future and to live healthy, secure, and rewarding lives. Internews has worked with citizens and local media in more than 100 countries. Together with local partners such as universities and other non-profit organizations, Internews has supported the development of thousands of media outlets worldwide, including radio and television stations, newspapers, mobile news networks, and online news sites.
General Context
Internews has launched several regional media support projects in the Baltics and Eastern Europe focused on supporting local independent journalists and media outlets. The projects aim to foster resilience in media and society by helping make credible, professional media more competitive, and expanding audiences and demand for fact-based, reliable information. The Grants and Contracts Assistant will support the management of a considerable portion of Internews grants portfolio.
Core Functions/Responsibilities
- Contributes to development of requests for applications for selection of grantees and tenders for procurements in partnership with program teams;
- Assists with development, translation and modifications of grant agreements in accordance with existing policies;
- In liaison with Senior Grants and Contracts Officer, maintains regular contact with Internews grantees and contractors regarding the financial and administrative aspects of their projects, answering questions, providing guidance, and helping to problem-solve as necessary;
- In liaison with Senior Grants and Contracts Officer, advises grantees and contractors on preparation of required reports and ensures their timely submission;
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date grant files;
- Contributes to ensuring that Internews, funders and local regulations are observed in grant implementation;
- Keeps Senior Grants and Contracts Officer informed about any issues that arise in relation to grant administration and implementation;
- Provides support when commissioning services from vendors and contractors, including conducting due diligence procedures and communicating with the selected providers;
- Assists in related tasks as assigned by Internews management.
Qualifications
- University degree;
- 1-2 years of office work experience;
- Strong English and Russian language skills (speaking, reading, writing);
- Strong computer skills, particularly with MS Excel, Word;
- Legal right to reside and work in Lithuania.
- Ability to:
Communicate clearly and diplomatically;
Problem-solve proactively within the bounds of policies and regulations;
Balance and effectively prioritize multiple assignments and deadlines;
Show sensitivity and understanding for diverse perspectives in a multicultural environment.

- Related work experience (grant monitoring and administration).
