You would join the Customer Capabilities tribe – an international organisation of 100+ professionals working across Denmark, Lithuania, and India. The tribe owns core banking domains such as Fees, Interest, Tax Reporting, and Customer Communication.

About the role

This role is ideal for a backend engineer who enjoys understanding complex systems, solving technical challenges, and maintaining mission-critical services.

You would join a dedicated mainframe team responsible for calculating all fees across Danske Bank. The system processes millions of transactions and plays a critical role in keeping banking operations stable and reliable.

Although the organisation is gradually modernising its systems, the current mainframe platform is expected to remain an important part of the bank’s infrastructure for many years. The team is therefore looking for someone who is motivated not only by new technologies, but also by engineering ownership, system stability, and long-term maintenance of complex enterprise platforms.

The hiring manager places strong emphasis on mindset, curiosity, and working principles rather than specific technology experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve core fee calculation services running on IBM Mainframe
• Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and improve system stability
• Work with large-scale enterprise and legacy banking systems
• Collaborate with Product Owners and Business Analysts to implement fee calculation logic
• Improve testing, operational processes, and documentation
• Contribute to long-term system modernisation initiatives where relevant
• Work closely with international colleagues across Lithuania, Denmark, and India

You are not expected to know all of them. The company is open to engineers coming from strong backend backgrounds who are willing to learn.

Must-have:

• Either a relevant educational background OR 5+ years of professional experience
• Strong backend development experience
• Experience working with large-scale or complex enterprise systems
• Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly
• Interest in working with legacy and mission-critical systems
• Collaborative mindset and strong ownership attitude

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with Mainframe technologies
• Banking, fintech, insurance, or telecom background
