What’s tax got to do with ESG and sustainability? A lot!

Put simply, countries have committed to ambitious net-zero plans and the role of business is clear. For governments, tax will and is being used as a lever to achieve these targets. This manifests in two ways: either through increased tax costs by taxing negative externalities from non-environmentally friendly behaviors (for example, high carbon emissions or high amount of plastic waste) and conversely, through the use of tax incentives and financing, which can help to drive sustainable business transformation and behaviors with positive environmental impacts.

Understanding and staying abreast of the green tax landscape is important, as is understanding potential tax implications for changing business operations and models.

We are looking to expand our team of tax advisors focused on providing high value, independent, trusted advice to our clients as they transition to a more sustainable economy.

The opportunity
Currently we are looking for Tax Consultant – Assistant to support our Tax team. Everything you will do on a daily basis will come back to providing tax advice and compliance solutions for our clients. You will work with colleagues and clients from a diverse array of backgrounds and will help them resolving complex tax and business issues. As you build your knowledge and experience in tax, finance and business area, you will become a tax advisor, influencing clients and engagement teams on resolutions that will impact entire industries.

We are at the forefront of current trends in climate change and sustainability, and we engage with clients at all levels to provide insight into these developments. We want candidates who are dedicated and capable of helping us to develop our dynamic sustainability practice that is focused on making the difference for our clients, as they navigate this agenda, and the society at large.

Your key responsibilities
• Analyze evolving ESG and Sustainability tax regulatory landscape, relevant standards and work on related tax advisory and compliance projects
• Help clients to best address increased tax costs and opportunities of tax incentives and financing, which can help to drive sustainable business transformation and behaviors with positive environmental impacts
• Engage with global EY network, gather best practices and contribute to develop ESG and Sustainability tax service offering in Lithuania
• Be a part of a team of problem solvers, helping our clients identify and solve emerging business issues on environmental, social, governance and sustainability topics from strategy to execution

Skills and attributes for success
Analytical and critical thinking, writing skills, great teamwork & communication skills would be great assets and help you to succeed.

To qualify for the role you must have
• Curiosity and keeping up with ESG, sustainability and tax news
• Motivation and willingness to grow as an expert in tax professional services
• Proper mix of strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as analytical and critical thinking skills
• Strong academic record including the university degree or being last year student in economics/ finance/ accounting/ STEM or related area
• Excellent spoken and written Lithuanian and English

Ideally, you’ll also have
• Accounting, finance, tax or related work experience

Salary: 1550 – 2150 EUR gross
